January Wrap Up

Thorn by Intisar Khanani – 4.5 stars This was a lovely retelling of “The Goose Girl” that I’ve been wanting to read for a while. The characters and the world were fascinating. I’m so glad I finaly picked it up!

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia – 2 stars This read for the Forgotten YA Gems Book Club just wasn’t for me. It was quick and engaging, but I couldn’t stand the characters. Full Review

The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher – 4 stars This horror novel was such a great time! Featuring a museum of taxidermy, an impossible bunker, and a world of willows, it is extremely atmospheric and creepy. Full Review

A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan – 3.5 stars I picked this up expecting a sci-fi “Sleeping Beauty” retelling, which is what I got. But also with a side of heartbreak. I didn’t love the first half, but the second half made up for it. Full Review

Horrid by Katrina Leno – 4 stars Another fun horror read featuring a haunted house and a protagonist full of rage. I had a great time with this one!

You Must Not Miss by Katrina Leno – 4 stars This is a truly strange yet fascinating book. Part contemporary YA, part magical realism, and part horror with yet another rage-filled protagonist. I’ll definitely be looking into more of Leno’s books.
